Living Like a Yogi in the 21st Century

A 10 day journey into the ethics of yoga in the modern world.

Have you ever wondered, as you mowed people down to get to your rush hour yoga class on time, how yoga might be applied to the rest of your life?

Have you got to the point in your practice where you’re curious about the philosophy of yoga, and how it applies both on the mat and off it (but would rather not relocate to a Himalayan cave to find out)?

A little introduction to the ethical philosophy of yoga, applied to the modern world (you can still eat pizza in bed) may be what you need.

Living Like a Yogi in the 21st Century

will give you ten digestible nuggets of ethical ideas that you can integrate into your life, your practice, and your day.

Each day you will receive a 10-15 minute audio on one of yoga’s ethical principles with a discussion and prompts on how to apply to your life.

Day 1:  the importance of kindness and non-harming (both on the mat and off it)

Day 2: the importance of not lying (and yes, we’ve tried all the white-lie wiggle-rounds, sadly they’re not allowed)

Day 3: the importance of not stealing (this sounds obvious, but you’d be surprised)

Day 4: Day 4: the importance of non hoarding (this doesn’t just apply to all the props in the yoga studio)

Day 5: the importance of not getting distracted (have you checked your phone messages yet?)

Day 6: the importance of cleanliness (who doesn’t love that feet smell in the yoga studio?)

Day 7: the importance of being OK with stuff (does not apply to Trump’s re-election campaign)

Day 8: the importance of discipline (eg getting to this point in the list)

Day 9: the importance of self study (how much are therapists nowadays?)

Day 10: the importance of letting go.

Living Like a Yogi in the 21st Century is for you if:

  • You are ready to delve deeper into yoga's foundations to understand its philosophical side

  • Philosophy has always scared you

  • You regularly contravene all of the ethics listed above

  • You want to take the ethical concepts of yoga beyond the mat and into your life

This is not for you if:

  • You enjoy harming, lying, stealing, hoarding etc (we recommend becoming an estate agent).

Good Life Yoga School

was established by Marcus Veda & Hannah Whittingham after many years of guest teaching on other teacher trainings. Their aim has always been to respect the traditions of yoga whilst bringing it into the modern world. The syllabus is grounded in science and anatomy whilst also placing emphasis on ethics, philosophy and the history of yoga. Of course, at its heart is practice - practice of asana (the moves), practice of teaching, of assisting and of being a ‘good yogi’…whatever you decide that means.

Giving back to others is important to GLYS, so we donate 10% of our profits to ‘Givewell’ approved charities.
